FILMY, Sahara One Media and Entertainment Limited's second channel after Sahara One, was launched on February 12, 2006. The Sahara Group was already into the businesses of general entertainment television, news and motion pictures and a Hindi films based channel was recognised as a natural step in the direction of integration of these businesses.
FILMY, a Sahara One Network Creation, is a digitally encrypted Hindi Movie channel, which aims to redefine how cinema is consumed on television. It delivers the biggest Bollywood blockbusters, spiced up with a dash of fun and Satirical original content. This unique movie presentation format combined with FILMY's slick and new-age packaging promises to enthrall the viewers with a stress-free movie viewing experience.
The test signal for FILMY went on air on January 26, 2006 . The commercial launch of the channel happened amidst much fanfare on February 12, 2006 . A 30-city FILMY Yatra was organized through the month of February, where the FILMY anchors traveled with the Yatra to various cities, and met the viewers and the media at the local level. The launch also featured a high decibel campaign across television, radio, outdoor and ground. Some of the key markets covered were Mumbai, Delhi , Kolkata, Lucknow , Ahmedabad, Pune, Nagpur , Chandigarh , Bhopal , Jaipur and many others.
FILMY shows four a mix of movies – hindi as well as hollywood dubbed films but primarily it shows hindi films across all genres everyday. These films are packaged into festivals and branded slots keeping the interest of viewers and advertisers in mind. For example, we have slots like Sunday Super Cinema, Saturday Blockbuster, One Break movie etc.
FILMY has telecast the World TV Premieres of No Entry, Guru, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Umrao Jaan, Dor, Gangster, Khamoshh, Fareb, Jo Bole So Nihaal, and a few others feature films since its launch. In recent past FILMY has been airing blockbuster titles like Ghajini, Singh Is King, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.., Golmaal Returns, Bhoothnath, SarkarRaj etc.
FILMY makes the movie viewing on the channel a lot more exciting and interesting vis-à-vis other movie channels by presenting movies in an interesting manner. All packaging elements including channel I.Ds, Astons and Action windows are created afresh to justify and illustrate the “Ma Kasam, Filmy Hai” tag thereby announcing the refreshed FILMY and the new line-up of Blockbuster titles.
